He first started his entrepreneurial journey as a shoemaker with a capital of $5000 of hard-earned savings and assistance from his sister.
He later became a dealmaker, diversifying his businesses into property development, fund management, hotel and resorts, water and wastewater treatment, technology, home appliances and consumer electronics, luxury fashion, sporting wear and more. Some of his better known businesses are World of Sports and Harvey Norman.

Created HNO, a joint venture with Harvey Norman Australia to invest in Pertama Holdings Limited. They trade under the name of “Harvey Norman” after a voluntary general offer of PHL which was publicly listed on the main board of SGX. George is also the Deputy Chairman of Pertama Holdings Limited.
