WHAT I STAND FOR
Independence
In carrying out the important role of the Singapore Presidency, I believe that Independence is key.
The Constitution states that the President must be non-partisan.
I do not come from any party, have no involvement in any grassroots activities and have had no links to Government Linked Companies (GLCs), and have not received any investment from the Government into my businesses, throughout my 41 years as an entrepreneur.
I am able to bring a fresh pair of eyes, and be objective when carrying out the role of the President
Fair Appointments
Ensure no conflict of interest in key appointments, such as the Chief Justice, AGC, and CEOs of Temasek, GIC and more.
Unify the People
My independence can be a powerful unifying force. People can form around me and the office of the President, regardless of political leanings.

Despite my humble beginnings, I’ve been fortunate to have been able to experience and grow from many different encounters and opportunities in life.
It’s through these life lessons that I have garnered the can-do spirit, resilience and empathy that I endeavour to serve all Singaporeans with.
